The American Red Cross was founded more than 125 years ago by volunteers.
Since this time, the Red Cross has stood by the idea of small staff, large volunteer base.

The Mahoning Chapter has seven employees (includes two part-time) and more than 300 active volunteers.

DISASTER SERVICES
Disaster Volunteers provide Red Cross Disaster Assistance to the community as members of the Disaster Action Team. DAT volunteers are trained to assist with fires, floods, tornadoes, transportation accidents, hazardous material spills and other an-made or natural disasters.
National Disaster Service Volunteers are trained to respond to large disasters anywhere in the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska or American Territories.
All Basic Disaster Training is neccesary to become a Disaster Volunteer and is provided FREE locally by the Chapter.
SERVICE TO MILITARY FAMILIES
Service to the Armed Forces provide all types of vital, emergency-related service to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families around the clock.
HEALTH & SAFETY SERVICES
Instructors teach and certify participants in American Red Cross Health & Safety related courses such as First Aid, CPR, Water Safety, HIV/AIDS, Bloodborne Pathogens/Preventing Disease Transmission, Protect Your Back, Child Care, Babysitting, Home Alone, Scrubby Bear and Pet First Aid.
Instructor Aides assist in preparing for and teaching First Aid, CPR and Water Safety Courses
First Aid Workers work at American Red Cross First Aid Stations such as, the Canfield Fair and other events throughout the area.
Facilitators sponsor American Red Cross programs with their organizations.
Speakers talk to organizations and groups about subject matters related to First Aid, CPR and Water Safety and also subjects related to Nursing and Health Services.
Blood Pressure Screeners help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease through blood pressure screenings at local libraries and health fairs.
HIV Educators share the facts about HIV transmission and prevention as trained youth educators to youth of all ages.
PUBLIC RELATIONS SERVICES
Public Relation Volunteers will make posters, flyers, signs, displays and handouts for special events. They will assist with media relations and help write newsletters and reports. Public Relation Volunteers will also be able to participate in Chapter outreach activities.
